Well, this weekend is our towns annual steam and gas engine and threshing show , and FINALLY I will be able to take my fuel truck out and display it. I finally finished the lettering and I'm pretty happy with the results. Here are some photos for you to enjoy.

Wow Keith,

That is one pretty truck and the lettering is awesome! It must be very neat owning a truck like you do with a history so close to home. I never had any relatives into trucks or any that used something like this for their work. Wonderful combination of truck and history....SPECIAL!

Nice looking truck!
I am building a 48 2 ton as well. I have been looking for just the right red color to use for my cab. I want one that is not too bright and not to dark, about like the red you used for the fuel tank.
Do you have the color code?
How did you find the color, is it used somewhere else I may be able to see it in person?
Any idea how this color looks compared to the "Commercial Red" Chevy offered at the time?
Thanks,
Grigg

Grigg, You can take a look at this color anywhere there is an International Harvester tractor or combine. grin I had no idea on the exact shade of red the tank was originaly so I just decided to go w/IH red. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone. :p grin

Too bad Rich, I has hoping you could make it, I noticed that "Farm America"(?) was near you. That looked interesting as well.

Thanks Keith,
That's easy, although it appears a little darker in the picture than an IH does in person. I have a year or 4 to find the shade that suits me though.

Hey Keith, Fantastic job! Very nice to see the old picture when it's still being used, as you found it, and the progress photos. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Keith;

Yes, I'm only about 5 or 6 miles from Farmamerica. In fact, I had 2 tractors there this weekend, plus I took the 'Bolt on Saturday. It's an interesting place, with lots of potential. However, it's also a glaring example of the difference between a government-run operation versus a private club like yours---i.e. they need 10 times as much money (state money) to get half as much done!!

Sharp truck. I had a D-X station way back about 50 years ago. Sun oil bought them out. They had some great products. They were leaders in the industry in new developments. They pioneered cleaner high octane gas, detergent oil, & multi weight oils.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Hummmmm wonderful images..... Also gives me a great idea... as I have a '50 GMC rolling chassis..and extra cab.. an extra front clip..... and of course My '49 2 ton had a 3-section (winged caps) fuel tank (kinda like yours) sitting in the bed when I got it.... so???
might be another project???
