Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel - 16" x 6" Rim - 6 on 5-1/2 - Black Powder Coat / Item # AM20758

Wondering if anyone has used the rim listed above and if they'll fit on a 1st series 3100 without any tie-rod mods? I'm going to mount 215 85R 16 tires on my '53. Discount tire won't mount these tires on my original rims. I've read members posts stating they've mounted this size tire on original 4 1/2" rims with no problems so my plan is to mount the tires myself then have a local tire shop spin balance them. I'm already running tubeless bias ply tires, so my rims are good. Just checking my options and curious to see it the Dexstar wheel will work.

I purchased 16"x6" rims (3.5" back space) from Wheelsmith and they fit fine on the stock brake drums with stock steering and suspension.

I mounted 225/70 R16 wheels but had planned to mount the 215/85 R16 tires. The only reason I didn't was due to the much higher cost per tire.

I have 215/85 R16 tires on my Packard that has 4.5" rims. They fit and handle great.

They were $217 each for bare steel Smoothie. I opted to have them powder coated.

$60 each for powder coat for a total of $277 per wheel.

Some sort of host server issue is preventing the pictures from attaching properly.

I'm extremely pleased with these wheels. They are very high quality. They'll powder coat them in whatever color you choose but they can't match original paint colors. If you want an original body color wheel, you'll need to order the bare steel version and paint them yourself.

I opted for gloss black and ordered a new set of hubcaps from them. If you have original caps, they will make the rims for you with the proper clips to hold your original caps.

My truck had crummy 15" trailer wheels on it and looked and handled like crap. I considered buying used Chevy wheels but finally decided the best thing to do was buy all new rims. If I did it again, I would probably buy 5" rims instead of 6' rims to be closer to the original look.

Since they're custom made 5" would be the way to go. I'm glad I posted this question and the right member saw it!!

You might look here. I have a set on my 54 but nothing special except the are drilled for both ford and chevy bolt patterns. I have a pacer front end and a Nova rear end with 2.73 gears.

Post a picture of the tires you're getting.

When you get your new rims and tires installed, post before and after pics of your truck.

As a reminder, original caps will not fit on the smoothies unless you have Wheelsmith install the clips for you. They sell original style caps that fit on the smoothies.

I think I'll go with their baby moons and smooth trim ring.
