This kind of pricing doesn't come up very often. There is a slant back radio, 1947 to 1950 GMC/Chev radio for sale on Ebay. It is unrestored and missing the back cover but it is being offered at a price of 155.00.

Perhaps that price is not the great deal y’all think it is Because of what’s missing this radio is only good for parts The back cover is gone The special curved mounting bits behind the knobs are gone The inside is quite rusted, no zinc remains on the back chassis It has the wrong screw heads in many locations so you know it’s been opened and worked on before And someone drilled a hole in the front on the right side what’s that all about Lol
It will cost you a whole other radio to fill in the missing parts I think it’s a fair price for someone who has many and needs a few extra bits But if you are trying to rebuild one first time spending a bit more on a more complete unit that is less molested is perhaps worth it
Now by all means I’m gonna love answering questions all day for anyone who what’s to take it on I enjoy rebuilding these radios -s
If I needed one for my truck, the missing back would not stop me from using it. My first truck radio was the same model and it didn't have a back. I made my own from another radio case. It was a bit crude but worked out. Only the front bezel etc. is visible when installed.
Yeah if ya don’t care that’s fine And I hope people are interested in fixing this stuff still It’s not a common hobby for sure Me and few others for sure have parts to borrow to model fabricating replacement bits With 3D printing tech evolving so fast maybe soon someone will make a model of the whole case and bits and then we can all just share files to print anything missing No more barriers at all
Truckernix is onto something tho, the radio is not a sealed cavity so the back volume is not a factor in the performance No back is the same sound for all intents and purposes Makes changing tubes easier too -s
That will be a big change. When they went digital with TV, it was introducing us to a new world. I have fond memories of working on the old analog TVs but what we get now is pretty astounding in detail etc,
It's an even bigger change for old analog AM radios that don't receive digital AM. If there is no analog AM stations to listen to then the old radio becomes an expensive dash hole filler. My 54/55 radio is in the same boat. To have one converted to AM/FM Stereo is another $$$. Unless you are going 100% original, consider other cost effective options.

Let the radio sit there whether it works or not. Buy a couple fist sized wireless bluetooth speakers and put them in the seat next to you or on the floor or wherever. You can listen to whatever you want, whenever you want, including any local am or fm radio station. Cheaper, easier, and always works.

Wireless speakers require a home network or a mobile WiFi. Bluetooth speakers require a device like an IP (a hand held phone with Internet connection...Idiot Panel). Whether wireless or Bluetooth you have to pay a company for the service (over-the-air transmission to mobile devices).
In the USA, it is free to receive AM (540 to 170Khz) and FM (88 to 108Mhz) signals. They are free to receive but we have to suffer listening to the terrible commercials which pays the bills of the radio station.
