After successfully driving Cloey (1942 1.5 ton 4x4) for 7 hours straight yesterday, I stopped to get fuel and when I started to take off the front left wheel was locked up. It rolls backwards fine but not forward. I jacked up the axle; the drum was hot as a pistol so I removed the clips in the backplate to expose the brake shoe adjustment mechanisms and adjusted the shoes inwards, thinking the return spring maybe broken..... that's not it, you can roll the wheel in reverse (and that motion transfers to the front driveline OK so it's not the differential or axle) but it will not move forward. There's no rattles, crunching, nothing. The bearing housing was just warm and I heard no telltale wheel bearing noise..... Any Ideas?

How does it act when it cools? I had mine over adjusted once and they tightened up with the heat of driving. Is there any gear lube in that wheel?
