The ‘62 C-10 will go to the body shop in about 2 weeks for a full make over. I will be removing both bumpers and the grill along with the headlight trim before taking it in. This guy does quality work and guarantees his work. All dents removed and front fender lower corner rust repaired. Bed removed for total access to the back of the cab. I’ve never been able to master the paint gun so the money will be well spent. After photo will come in late August when it’s done.

Sounds like a plan! Looking forward to seeing the results.

If that doesn’t give you something to look forward to… I don’t know what else could! Hopefully you can get some sleep while waiting for the delivery of it. Exciting stuff!
This guy is an independent shop owner who’s shop is tucked in next to a small pond on the backside of an old Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Pontiac dealer. He rents out the old 3 bay body shop while the rest of the old dealership is broken up into various businesses. His work is really good and certainly not cheap. I’ve got a bit of prep work to get ready for his “bring it in” call. Remove bumpers, grill and headlight bezels, along with the spare tire carrier. Hopefully it will be ready for the last couple of shows before winter. Thanks for the kind words. Martin

Got a text from the painter this morning telling me to bring it in. Dropped it off at 9am for what will probably be a 3-4 month project. He does the bill paying jobs Mon-Fri 8 to 5 and then switches bays to work a couple of hours and weekends on his pet projects. He was hooking up the sander as I was leaving. I can’t wait to show y’all when it’s done.

New photos today. Both rear fenders are off. He’s rigging up a fixture to straighten the front bed panel before removing the bed. Progress however slow is progress.

Tried to body work the headlight bezel but it was bent in such a way that I couldn’t get tools to it. So, located a NOS bezel on Evilbay and it’s on the way. I think I can straighten the other one.

I’ve been spending 30-40 minutes each morning working dents out of the grill. In the distant past someone must have rear ended a truck with something protruding from the bed. The impact bent the lower grill bar upward in the center and put a pretty good crease in it. Using a 1” steel bar and my 12 ton press I was able to get the crease out but the bar has a slight bend and twist in it. I spent some time this morning drilling out the rivets holding the center assembly in place. That is now out of the way so I should be able to get at the lower bar easier. Slowly getting it straight enough for powder coat.
I ended up ordering 2 NOS headlight bezels and they arrived Monday in perfect NOS condition. The ‘62 apparently is a 1 Year only grill so I feel lucky to find these.

Are you going to have them put the logo back on the door?

Kevin, that’s being debated. With the cost and quality of the paint job, if it is put back on it will be a wrap. I have a friend who does that and his computer can recreate the art work. Same with the tailgate flag.

Yeah, a wrap is the way to go. If you have a good picture of the original, your friend should be able to duplicate it. That’s the way I’m going to do my door logos.

Bed is off and a ton of sanding done. A bit of self etching primer here and there. Still working on straightening the bed header panel but progress is being made. Happy, no rust on the back of the cab. He didn’t have anything else in the shop today so the truck is getting lots of love today.

Martin, That is looking good and I know how excited you must be. Is that a factory color and if so what is it called? It looks similar to Mariner Blue that was used on my '50 COE. Kent

Kent it is a factory GM color. 2022 Glacier Blue Metallic We used a darker primer/sealer so the color turned out a little richer than it is on the new trucks.

Looking good! I've wet sanded/polished my truck twice, once when it was green and more recently the new red. That's very hard labor and there's no way I could do it in a day or two. More like a month.

Rear fenders are getting their final polish. Tailgate is almost done. May be ready to bring home by Sunday, if not it will be Monday or Tuesday.
