Do they have universal kits or new ones, or do I have to go salvage? | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 1,048 | On a lot of trucks including my '41 3/4 ton the front part of the system is just a straight rod with threaded ends. These attach to the forward end of the cables. If you are not interested in a totally original truck you could possibility use shorter cables and make up a longer rod. Of course you will have to see if the brake end of the cable would fit. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | There are postings on this. One of them I remember stated that you can get new ones made up if you have the ends to the old ones. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 338 | Keep an eye on e-bay. I had a terrible time finding them for my 40, but eventually I found a NOS set on eBay. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2004 Posts: 3,068 | I just bought some bulk cable and some clamps and hooked everything up. I wasn't into the resto look, I was after function, Scott | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 587 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 587 | I'm switching to rear of trans brake on my 49 4400 myself. Someone changed the rear, and cut off the cables. Most cables are rusted beyond use in junkyard or old parts trucks. You can get the ones for small trucks, but I here they are pretty cheapy, no good. Thinking maybe you can add on to them at one end with something to be long enough? Might have to move the frame caseing holders too to adapt. Just a thought?

He explained once how you could use a certain type of marine cable to repace the inner cable. It may still be posted somewhere. I don't know how one would attach the ends. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 60 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 60 | You guys are awsome. Thanks for all the feed back.
