Just opened up the rear in my 46 1/2 ton. Looks like it hasn’t had gear oil in it since the last inspection sticker. 1973. Still have more tear down to do BUT…if it’s not salvageable is there a late model open driveline with 6 LUGS that is easily usable. Will wind up with a T5 trans more than likely if I have to go this route. I have new lowering springs and blocks set up for the 1/2 ton rear end and would like to use them as well. Significant investment. Staying 6lug as I just did the 6 lug front disc conversion.

Appreciate your input

Ed

1955 up to late ‘60s 1/2 ton. Some modifications required but not a deal breaker.

Early (2005 or so) Chevy Colorado had a rear axle with 6 lug wheels and a 57.5" track.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.

Depending on your budget and desired final build goals Curry makes entire rear end housings and axels and brakes, and can perfect match to our spring setup…very reasonable pricing when I looked…mine are 6 lug… you can get the exact rear end ratio you desire without the risks of chasing down dubious quality really old parts (you ARE going down the t5 path, might as well at least consider getting what follows it right on too?)
Was a pleasant surprise I found when I pulled off a rear hubcap on the 46 and saw their axel….and rear end…

I've been running '65 Chev pickup rearend (fits inside the fenders) for years in my '46, lots of ratios available and still 6 lug. I'm sure there are many more options today, best of luck.
