Hello all _ I am new to the forums and Stovebolt. I will be here often as I am just starting to gather parts and your knowledge to rebuild my dad's first pickup he used to start a construction company back in the 50's. I have read a number of stories an seen lots of pics. This site is obviously the find of the century for me. The pickup is probably 90% complete but not all drive train components are original. I look forward to finding help and parts on this site, and who knows, I may be able to help someone else along the way too. If there is a 216 out there somewhere I would be interested. It currently has a 4 speed, which was an option I believe, but my older brother said he believes it was originally the 3 speed. If there is a 3 speed out there I would be interested. Also running boards and a tailgate. Thanks to any and all that read this. I'm excited.

The 3 speed transmission is a synchronized transmission. The 4 speed is not synchronized, you would have to double clutch to shift from gear to gear. What engine does the truck have in it at the moment? Does it run and drive? Chevys of the 40s and Jim Carter are a couple of vendors to check out.

DadsFirstPickup,

First off WELCOME wave

Please take a few moments and post in the "Welcome Centre" forum to say hello to the community.

When you get a chance, check out the picture posting instructions and post pics of your truck for all to see and share in your project.

Would also help if you could indicate more details on wanted/needed parts (original only, suitable newer things - such as engines that will still fit the truck but upgrade reliability/power, etc.).

Again welcome to the "Bolt!

I agree with Dan, post a little about yourself and your truck in the “Welcome Center Forum”. Please include some pictures. Instructions on how to post images are on this page in the left margin. We ‘bolters love pictures.

Additionally, you will get much more responses, if you post your questions in the proper forums. Questions about engines belong in the “Engine Forum” and likewise transmissions belong in the “Driveline Forum”.

Looking forward to your post and we are here to help you throughout your project. Good luck and welcome!

Welcome to the Stovebolt.
My truck came from North Dakota, just a few miles from you in Flasher.
There are lots of these trucks laying about on the farms in your state. Almost every farm has it's own junkyard.
I found for your local searches that https://www.bismanonline.com/ is a great resource.
Post some photos when you can.
Keep us updated as you make progress.

Dad!

Welcome. I moved your thread to the Welcome Centre here. Looks like the gang have already given you the greasy handshake (or fist bump if you prefer not me).

Kudos to you fellows for making Dad feel welcome already when he was in the Parts Wanted forum. You guyzzzzzzz. (Usually it's a red flag for someone in the Welcome Centre looking for parts in there. So, this was a good catch ... that no one reported. dang)

Hope the gang can help you muchly. We think they can. It's who we collectively are! thumbs_up

I have always liked the 1940 look much more than the 1941 which has a grill designed by a committee. The last 40 we did the owner got carried away from reading too many magazines so it ended up a trailer queen. Drivers were definitely smaller and skinnier back then. Not even God could make them not have wind noise at 70mph but you're choosing the sane 45mph cruising speed where two people in the cab can talk to each other. Should be a nice build and for a good reason, your Gramps.

Loud? These trucks aren't loud... Just ask Hambone.

Welcome aboard, D's1stPU! 'Bout time we had another '39/'40 guy onboard to take over from the Grand Poohbah himself of that era, Barry Weeks. A resto of that truck, even as complete as it is, will have a challenge or two ... But that's where we come in! We'll get you over, around or through most obstacles!

I'm happy you're here!

My apologies for my first post being in the wrong forum and mentioning parts where I shouldn't have. Not off to an impressive start am I?
As requested here is a bit about myself - I have been in construction my entire life as my dad started his own company back in the 50's. He traded his 1940 car for the 1940 pickup I now have to get started. I have always enjoyed working on vehicles, and truth be told, I wanted to be a mechanic but ended up a carpenter instead. This site and the folks like you all with the knowledge has me excited to get started. Thank you all for making me feel welcome. Pics to post soon.

I have a nice 1940 half ton that I restored many years ago. I still enjoy it a lot. I'm no expert, but I've been there and done that. It's not nearly as easy to find parts as it is for the next generation of trucks, but they're out there. I kept my truck very original. Maybe I'll be able to help with pictures, etc. Good luck
