Just like Spanky's tread but for the next genaration of Trucks, 1955-1966.

I guess I could take a head count from the gallery.....I see two in the 55-59, & 4 in the 60-66 not counting my truck.

Hey Jolly, I've found out, that alot of people, that have LCF's, don't realize, that's what they actually have. They don't know, they are called LCF's.

If you look in the Gallery, you see some listed as "C60" instead of "L60". and I wonber how many are bigger then a 60 seires listed as a 60.

I don't understand how or why a person with an old truck won't learn what they really have.

I want to know every thing I can about my trucks and the other models in the line, it really helps when it come time to find parts when you know what it is and what it should be.

There's one in Auto-rv rag by me listed as a 1-1/2 ton. But, it's much bigger unit, like 70 or bigger or whatever ID they had? It's a 55 and he only wants $950 I think it was. Way down in Southern IN, too far for me to go look!

I just spotted a GMC 370 dump truck that's an LCF,I think.(Cab looks similar to a COE,doghouse appears to be about halfway between a COE and a conventional in length.) Doesn't appear to be in bad shape,in fact the interior looks ALL original, but I get the impression it's not available for purchase. Still has current tags and has been moved in the last 2 or 3 days,so I figure the owner still uses it. Wish I knew how to get a pic on here,I'd show it to you.

I have a 1956 9200 Series (2-1/2 ton) with the 322 Buick V8 and a Powermatic 6-speed (Allison) automatic, power steering and air over hydraulic brakes. It can be seen on my web site.

Nate,

Check your friends door post serial number to confirm the rating. If it starts with 5C it's a 2 ton (19,000 gvw), 5F it's a Heavy Duty 1-1/2 ton (15,000 gvw) and if it's 5J it's a Heavy Duty 2 ton (21,000 gvw).

All 55-59 LCF trucks had V8's, the I6 is to long to fit under the hood.

For those of you unsure if you have ab LCF truck one sure way to tell is, "Is it a Chevrolet?" Only Chevy used that name. GMC did build a "Short Convertional" it was the F-model for 1955-1959, and the B-Model For 1960-1966.

Here are two pics were you can tell if you have one of the Short Convertional trucks:

1955-1959 Chevy LCF & GMC F-Model Trucks

1960-1966 Chevrolet LCF Trucks

This is the Truck GMC Built in the 60 that was the brother to the Chevy LCF, the GMC B-Model , That should help with the ID of your trucks.

Now for Ratings, A lot of guys call these trucks 2 ton or 5 ton or some thing like that, I never really liked that system, as most 2 tons can haul a lot more than 2 tons. If your truck is rated for 19,500 lbs (like My LCF), and a lot of them are, that is 9-3/4 tons. My truck being an L60 tips the sales at 5270 lbs, add another 2000 for a bed, that would be 7270, that 3.635 tons, which leaves a little over 6 tons for payload, and most would call a 60 series a 2 ton.

Guess I can post in here as well, although I always just called it a C60 it is indeed a LCF.

'63 5 speed, 2 speed rear. Tall deck BBC was in it when I got it (most likely 366) with Motorcraft 4 barrel. PTO winch at the front of the bed.

Have used it for a bit of work around the farm, but now looking at stabbing TBI or port injection on it, fresh tires, and putting it to use on the highway.

Need to work out tires first, would like to get away from split rim but unsure what modern 10 lug wheels would go on it.

I found a 57 GMC LCF (?) 350 series while on a road trip this past weekend. Has the 3 pc hood.

Guy claims it's a Calif. truck & is asking $2000 for it.
Seems pretty solid - some surface rust, has a 235 (?) & 4spd with 2 speed rear & has a flat bed...
He claims it ran when it was parked & it blew a brake line, so that's when it was parked.

I know pics would help (I can post some if interested), but off the hip what is a fair price on one of these??

Thanks for letting me hi-jack this thread...

One of my neighbors is an older guy in his late seventies. He is selling his property, home, and several large 1-1/2-ton to 3-ton trucks and one bus. There is a '56 LCF Chevy that I'm going to check out, plus there is a burned-out late '60's C-60 Chevy school bus that would make a great hauler; a '58 International dump, a '59 Chevy dump he uses to haul gravel daily; a '52 (?) GMC 2-ton, and a few others that are hard to ID from the street. The trucks aren't advertised currently, but I know they're for sale. He's liquidating and lightening the load, so to speak. Once I get an accurate truck inventory, I'll pass the word to you all

This is one nice looking LCF. I know it says "C", but obviously it's not. Wish I had the time and money for it,

Jolly, My '65 LCF in the swap meet is listed as a C60 even though I know better. Likely one on my many typing mistakes. I use the truck each spring and fall to haul fertilizer on my farm.

His the story I got with the truck:

I bought it at a local salvage yard as a cab and chassis. I was told it was sold to the salvage yard from an estate clean up. apparentley a local farmer died and his son cleaned out the yard. The old farmer had cut the single axel rear off and replaced it with a heavey but well worn twin screw. He put a new steel grain box on it and a fresh rebuilt 327 truck motor. The son moved the new box to a newer chassis. I drove the truck home the 50 miles and went 70 MPH with my Dad trying to keep up in my 66 GMC. Anyway it runs like a top, has a SM420 and an over/under/direct 3 speed auxillary. Bakes work but have a tendancy to stick and drag. I only use it to tend my fertilizer equip in the field. Probably gets driven 5 miles a year now. I have a spare cab and front clip if I ever need them. Good luck to all the bolters out there. Todd

A local junkyard had a 60s GMC semi version with the V12 and dual rears,it was the first time I seen the V12 and there was not much room in the cab. I would of loved to drag it home but the neighbors and city would of had a fit. Jeff

Hello fellow LCF owners!
I am new to the stovebolt site. I have a 59 Chevy 50 Viking lcf, my first one I bought about 10 years ago was very badly rusted. I have since bought 2 other lcf for parts. Will be making 1 truck with parts from all three. Truck is a 2ton with heavy duty axles, 5 speed trany and 2 speed rear axle.

Any other LCF owner in Ontario Canada?

Thanks,Jolly! I always liked the "B"-Series "Jimmy's",but didn't know exactly what the model was called! Thanks for the link!! A lot of guys don't like the G.M.C. 305E,and bigger V-6's,but that's what I learned to drive with,so I guess I'm kinda attached to them. But,man,do they have torque!! Oh-they guzzle gas, too!

The first LCF I saw was Jolly's a few years back and I instantly caught the LCF fever, ever since I was a kid when we would drive by the dealerships I would look at the big Kodiak trucks and dream of having one with a normal truck bed. So I have always wanted a big ol truck but after seeing his LCF I knew I wanted one the "pug" short front end was such a neat look and with a long truck bed the wheelbase is about the same as a short bed truck so it would be easy to drive and park.

After alot of searching and looking at different trucks I finally got mine from a member of this forum and I have been doing alot of work on it just check out my photos.

Years Back,(about 1980),I saw a 1962 Chevy L-90 straight truck,in a junk-yard. This truck had about a 28'box,(livestock),single rear axle,and was equipped with 5-spoke "Daytons". Looked like the trans. was a Clark 5-speed,with an un-known auxiliary transmission. Engine WAS a 409. It had 409 (origional) stickers,on the air-breather,and valve-covers.If I remember correctly,there were 409 badges on the fenders. Now,I wish I took pic's of that truck,because it got parted/crushed,25-plus years ago.

Hey! I know this isn't the "For Sale" section,BUT...I just got the November 2012,(It's the latest one at the store here,)"Truck Round-up".On page 3,second truck from the top,1957 G.M.C. Short Conventional Tandem-axle/seems to be twin-screw,since it comes equipped with "Dayton" wheels, suggesting extra-heavy-duty. E-mailed seller to send pics. If,and when received,I'll let you know. Truck is black and silver, like Shane's L.C.F.! If you go to www.autoroundup.com,there are several listings of "Bolts" for-sale,mostly A.D.'s,but about every "generation" listed here, from pick-ups to 2-tons. Plus...PARTS,PARTS,PARTS!
