Hello everyone, I am new here. I have some questions about a 1956 4400 i plan on restoring. Does anyone know the dimentions, end to end, side to side, wheel to wheel? I want to see if it will fit on my dads trailer. Also, where can i get an original looking flat bed for it? Im from so cal, so thease trucks are almost unheard of around here.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. What a great looking truck..it looks like a desert dry, rust free dude!. I don't know the dimensions of your rig, but someone that does will probably be along shortly.

I have enclosed a link Fleming Metal in Los Angeles. They stamp parts for flatbeds..side rails, end rails, even neat "period" round corners. With these items, you could build a new bed that would fit the truck. Take a peek, it's surprisingly inexpensive, and they are close by.

look in the tech tips section and find out how to get a restoration kit from chevy, it has all the dimentions you want in it (as well as the dimentions for every other truck made that year).

Great looking truck and I like the portable pool. I've hauled all my big trucks including my 2 4400's on an 18" car trailer with a dovetail. The duals won't usually fit in between the fenders so that extra length has been needed. i still find some original beds for these trucks up here in Oregon. It is tough to find an original that isn't beat up. Good luck and have fun.

I figured I could be a little more helpful and measure my 55 4400 for you since it's in the back yard. It looks very similar to yours. The wheelbase, from the outer part of the front tire to the outer of the rear was 16". The rear measured 7' from outside dual to outside dual and the front was 6' wide. Hope that helps. Glamis, what's wrong with THAT bed?? Looks like it's mighty tough, just needs paint. That's lot heavier than any orig type would be. IF you have a heavy trailer, might make it on it, with-out the outer rear wheels on it. Take heavy tools and spray to get those off! My opinion is to use a tow bar. Let whole heavy truck ride on it's own wheels, no driver needed to steer, it follows ok. I have bar, remove the bumper and bolts to front frame ends. I used bigger trucks to haul home, but a good 3/4 ton or bigger truck should haul it OK. Just needs to have good hitch and able to pull that weight. Keep in mind, towed truck is on it's own wheels, so won't need to figure it's whole weight as load. I've pulled many home, only a few ever had trouble, usually in turning, but because steering was so rusted up or real bad tires on front. Take air tank or presser to put good pressure in tires too. Harder they are, easier they steer and follow.

I keep seeing your topic and thinking, "4400 questions sure is a lot of questions".

Thanks for the info guys. I plan on restoring this truck and showing it, so it wont do much "work". That is why i want an original looking bed for it. Anyone know of any good places to get 4400 restoration parts? Most places ive seen carry up to 1 ton parts.

Most of your basic parts will be the same as the pickups like for the cab and doors. You won't find any repro 4400 emblems and things like that. You can still get most all the brake and engine parts. Good luck with the search. I have a few parts trucks if you can't find something.
