Anyone planning on attending the inaugural Smokey Mountain Nationals? Looks like it will be an all AD event, and located in a great area of the the country.
I believe TUTS stated that my Dad and I have Southern Bolter Honorary status, so we are planning on attending.

Date: June 3rd & 4th, 2022
Location: Townsend, TN

Nice catch on this event Tom. I doubt if I'll make it being the Southern Nationals are just a month later. This looks like a great gathering for some of our folks who are a little closer.

PS: Yeah we claim you and your Dad grin

Pretty good throw from Boiling Springs...178 miles. But we, in Michigan, will call that Local.
I guess we're signed up for Lebanon and Townsend - Smokey Mountain Nationals. Booked a room today. Throw Craig in the truck and come join us.

A new flyer was just launched for the Smokey Mountain Nationals.
Sounds like they are still working on getting the electronic registration up and running, but at least here is more info.
Hopefully see some familiar Stovebolt faces there.....

I live about 1.5 hours away and plan on attending. I love AD trucks and this will probably be a lot of fun.

Friday is the first of April so we need to start figuring out who can make it.....I"m certainly planning on it.
PaPa Joe, I'd consider riding with you if you go.....or anyone near me needing a ride I can do that too.

....I need to re-read the info...is this a one day thing and if not, who is planning to stay two day??

basically we have about 60 days till Townsend...then 30 days till Lebanon. Lets do them BOTH.

Mr. TUT, you planning on going to Townsend??

Alvin, My work schedule won't let me do both shows. I'm putting all my efforts into the Lebanon show and the Jamboree. This work thing is really getting in the way of my fun and games, I may need to rethink this. grin

Alvin,

The schedule looks like:
Friday evening cruise at 4pm (June 3rd)
Saturday truck show and swap meet starts at 8am (June 4th)

My Dad and I plan on being there. I believe we are traveling down Thursday June 2nd. Staying Thursday and Friday nights at the Talley Ho Inn, and then probably leave out Saturday afternoon/evening.

I won’t be able to make the Townsend Show. And probably won’t be driving my “Old Blue” ‘53 to Lebanon, this year. Between the inflated prices for everything, and having to have some very expensive repairs done on my 2015 GMC᠁ there just ain’t no money left for fun stuff.
My Old Blue needs a transmission. The original old SM420 is starting to give up the ghost. At the very least it needs seals and bearings. No one seems to sell rebuild kits for them anymore. The speedometer drive and driven gears stripped out before I discovered how bad it is leaking. I just turned 70 in March and to be honest, I don’t want to lay on cold cement and take a tranny out.

I already have my reservations for the campground, and paid for the show in Lebanon. My grandson is looking forward to going so we will be there, just minus the ‘53.
I look forward to seeing y’all in July.

I hate to hear that you're not going to be able to make the Townsend show but I'm glad you're still going to Lebanon. I wish I was closer I would jump in and lend a hand with your 53's transmission.

Have you tried Novak Conversions for SM 420 parts? They show a master rebuild kit on their website and seems reasonably priced.

Thank you TUTS! I appreciate the gesture. I haven’t totally given up on the 53.

That looks like a good kit John L. I will keep them in mind.

If anyone comes across a used SM420 for sale cheap let me know. That’s the only way I know to get a set of speedo driven and drive gears. From what I understand they have to be a matched set.

PaPa Joe, with a price like that it's hard to pass up. I wonder if you could arrange for a Stovebolter closer to Colorado to pick it up? Ask in the Hauling Board if someone could secure it for you or even transport it East, maybe someone coming to Lebanon?

Did anyone make it to Townsend? I really wanted to go, but sometimes life gets in the way. Sorry I missed it. Hopefully next year I can drive an A-D truck to it. 😃

Yes, my Dad and I made it to the show. Unfortunately we didn't have a truck ready to take, but it was still a great time as a spectator checking out all the amazing AD trucks in a beautiful part of the country.

It's a 51, 5 window, 1 ton, 350 engine, SM420 trans, 14 bolt rear axle, 19.5 rims with homemade flat bed. I've owned the truck for about 5 years now. It was an all original truck when i purchased it but the 216 was pretty much used up. The gentleman I purchased it from said that it came out of Washington state and I found a couple items in the truck to back up his claim. It is a very solid truck. I'm already registered at the Lebanon show so I will look you guys up!

John L. Look for the Stovebolt awning and make sure you also join us at the State Park after the show.
