Good afternoon from Texas.

I have a 1961 Chevrolet Apache 10, 235 engine.
I have replaced the generator and voltage regulator and I still have no charging. The generator light stays on and will eventually drain the battery. I pulled the positive cable and it will stop running. I polarized the replacement generator and trickle charge the battery when it runs down. It will run great when the battery is charged, have temp gauge, horn, wipers and some lights (this is an old work truck) -- what would you check next? gpk1961

Let us know what you find. I have a completely stock 49' 3600 so any knowledge I can glean in case my charging system ever acts up would be nice to file away

If you decide to go alternator. I can help.

Chevy trucks went to alternators in 1963, so not a real stretch.

There are experts here that will guide you through which ever process you decide to embark on, there are pro's and con's to both methods of keeping your battery charged.

gpk1961 A friend always calls me to refresh his memory on just what you are doing. I suspect your done by now but others might use this. From the alt. output post put a jumper to the farthest away 1/4 inch flat terminal, put the other terminal to your dash light wire, send the big output post to charge the battery. Turn on key gen. light comes on start engine gen light goes out,alt makes a special noise when charging, also gets warm, feel where the two halves meet laminations there heat up.
