Got an exhaust manifold laying around, though it fit a 235 / 261. Outlet is angled back, seems to be the same as others I have except that it won't bolt to the intakes I have. This one has inner bolts that attach it to the intake spaced 2.50" apart, all the others I have are about 2.12" spacing. Cast # is 8836388.

Could be from a GMC.

I thought GMC all went straight down.

If you have either 216 or 235 intake laying around, you will be able to see which one does or does not mate up to the exhaust. Also 216 intakes are straight, 235s look like a gorilla twisted them.
The 216 manifold intake alignment sleeve measures 1 13/32" OD by 3/8" HIGH, 235 sleeve is 1 17/32". So find either intake to determine what you've got for an exhaust.

Have 3 intake off 235 / 261, none mate to it. Exhaust ports all line up w/ other 235 / 261 exhaust manifolds I have. This odd one also has the firing order cast into the front runner which the others don't.

Not all 216 manifolds dump straight down.
Starting in 1949, with the redesigned steering design for the passenger car, Chevrolet angled the dump at an angle backwards.
Just so they only had to make one design, they used this same angled manifold on trucks until 1953.

So perhaps the '49 - -53 intakes have the wider bolt spacing on the inboard bolts attaching it to the exhaust? All the stuff is '58 & later.

Does it have a two bolt or three bolt flange where the exhaust pipe bolts on?

3835388 is a 50-53 216 manifold. Are you sure it says 8836388?

2 bolt flange, yes it is 3835388 on closer inspection.

It's been split for dual outlet w/ functioning heat valve.
Bought it a few years back. supposed to fit 235.
Oh well, at least I know what I have.

Just for future searches, the bolt spacing is the same on all 216’s and 1941-49 truck 235’s, which use the same manifold as the 216.

Does this apply to both car & truck engines?
Once again, thanks for all the help!
