Two bolts on ears holding the pump on and it should come off, so I thinks! I can turn pump all around, but won't slip off any shafts or such. I even tried taking the adapter loose, and it does same thing. Soaking in PB Blaster to maybe loosen the shaft. Not sure if shaft stays with pump or the pto? I've been banging on it too hard, starting to look messed up on pump case now. I can see a key in shaft, barely, but no set screws or such that I can tell. The adapter is four "legs" like and open all other parts, but can't move around good to get tools in there. Darn thing's between trans and the frame. I don't want to take off the pto, it has oil lines running to it for lubing off trans and other stuff. Quite complicated rig. Any ideas or tricks? Does shaft stay with pump? Has manufacture tag on it, maybe time for contact with them?

These are either a 9 tooth SAE "A" flange (2 bolt) or a 13 tooth SAE "B" flange, 4 bolt as I recall. If the pump is a small displacement of say no more than 5-8 GPM then it is likely a 9 tooth A flange. There is no key holding the pump shaft to the female PTO shaft, only the pump mounting bolts hold them together. What you are referring to as a key is probably one of the teeth on the pump shaft. I say this because, as you point out there is no way to get at it and since the Allison PTO mounts above C/L and against the frame it is very difficult to get a good look at it. I'd suggest you remove the PTO/pump as a unit and once it is on the bench you should be able to get them apart. Be carefull not to crack the PTO case as these are S-P-E-N-D-Y. You don't even want to know what a replacement Allison PTO costs. | | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 477 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: May 2001 Posts: 477 | but you can figure it's the better part of as grand------------! | | |
