Nevertheless, my question is ..... how do you measure for snap rings. Do you ask for he OD of the shaft or do you ask for the OD of the groove the snap ring goes in??? I suspect Grigg will jump on this question?! | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,792 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,792 | Internal or external snap rings? I've always had good luck using the OD of the shaft and relying on the snap ring to fill the groove. We used to use Tru-Arc internal snap rings for piston pin locks, bit after losing a couple at high speed, we switched to Spiro-Lock rings that don't respond to high piston speeds and come adrift. Remember to bring that question up this weekend and we can look the specs up in my machinist bible. But, I think you go by the diameter of the bottom of the groove on OD rings and the ID of the groove on ID rings.

Thanks fellows. I will say, before I went looking for them I used a set of dials and checked the OD of both the outside of shaft and then OD of the ring groove. As we sometimes say, heck, that's more than I needed to know!
Thanks again. | | |
