In the center, left to right, and about 3/4 of the way up from the bottom of the grille there is a bolt with a shallow rectangular head that shows to font of the grille. Looks to me like an emblem should go there. The emblem goes in the center vertical bar and there should be a hole to bolt it on. Sounds like the emblem has been broken away from the bolt that holds it. This emblem is available from a couple sources and I believe the price is $45 unless they went up witht the price of gas!! When ordering one ask if its painted. Sometimes they advertise them and then you find out its not painted! As information the side emblems are that way. The first set I bought wasn't painted like the originals. The painted ones today cost about 35 bucks each. What you ordered should look great and be 100% correct.

The person who took my order said it was painted, the catalog I received with the order said unpainted. But the worst of it is the emblem does not fit the face of the grille. When placed on the grille, the tips of the wings on both sides touch the grille while the center (with the attaching bolt) is 1/4 inch from touching the grille. My grille is in very good original condition and is not bent. The emblem is undoubtedly cast and will not bend to conform to the face of the grille.
So I am back to searching for an acceptable grille emblem. Praise and many thanks to "GMCpanel", it was your suggestion that brought things together. I Copied the profile of the grille in the area where the emblem mounts, transfered that profile to a piece of hardwood and shaped a buck to work (shape) the emblem against. I checked the temperature produced by my electric heat gun (approx 260 degrees F.)and used that as my heat source. With the emblem placed on the buck (a hole drilled to receive the mounting stud) I heated it and then applied pressure with the drill press. In just a few minutes the emblem moved against the buck. Hope this isn't confusing.
Anyhow I am ready to paint and install the emblem and am now asking for advice on the proper paint scheme. Thanks, Ralph | | |
