my 350ci engine in my 1949 Chevy will only start in the moment when i release the start knob.
The truck is swap to V8 and 12volt 8 years ago and starts all time before verry good.
When i push the start knob the starter turns the engine normaly but it will only start in the moment of release,

What type of starter motor activation switch are you using, a key switch which activates the starter when the key is turned all the way to the right, or a push button switch which activates the starter when pushed? If you are using a point type distributor your resistor bypass circuit may be open or damaged.

I think you are saying that the motor does not fire at all until button is released. Is that correct?
This means you do not have the starter wired properly.
Does the starter solenoid have a big stud for the battery cable and two other smaller terminals?
Are these terminals labeled "B" (BATT) "S" (SOL) "R"
