I have a chance to buy a 62 C60. It appears to be a nice truck but 2 things concern me:

It has air over hydraulic brakes. I heard from someone this is not a desirable feature. What is the downside to these? Also, are parts still available for the system?

It also has independent front suspension. I have only seen one other truck with this setup, and have no idea if it is a problem. I suspect if it was very successful, they would have continued with it, but there has to be very few around that I can tell. What are the problems with this setup?

I know of no problems with the torsion bar front suspension. I had a 62' GMC with it and used it a lot for several years w/o any problems at all. Sure wish they still made those good old V6's.

The brakes should not be aproblem at all either. Be sure to keep the water out of the system by regular draining.

GM dropped the torsion bars after 3 years because they were prone to break & the front end would drop way down. They had many lawsuits over them. I amagine if they havn,t broke by now they probably never will.

I had a 1960 Chevrolet LCF L80 series, road tractor. It had the Torsion Bar front suspension. Sweetest riding "Big Truck', I've ever owned. It had power steering, & full air brakes,and it was carrying a big block 348. I also had a 1964 Chevrolet LCF L60 series, that was air/over hdraulic. I had no problems, with this truck either. I especially liked having another truck, equipted, with an air compressor. Any big truck repair center, should be able to locate parts, for these trucks. A Chevrolet Parts Catalog, for these years,with part numbers, will always give you an advantage, when parts hunting.
