Well, the smell of gas has finally got to me over the past 20 years and its time to get the tank out from under my seat.
I've seen deals where the gas tank is so big the truck looks like it has hemmroids and I don't want something hanging low!
There have been some pics posted sometime ago but can't seem to find them or just what "you" did.

I'm thinking a mustang gas tank from 65/66 (approx 15 gal) with neck straight up into the bed as I very seldom haul anything.
heck, i'd even go for a 12 gal tank. I know I'll need to put couple small angle irons to support it ect which is no problem.
I just want some suggestions from you guys who do this all the time.....what you say Coilover?

...and I believe the AD chassis is wider so the same tank for it may not work for me???

...and if you have done this, and used a mustang tank, what sending unit would I need?

HELP....I want to drive this thing to the Southern Jam and haven't much time.

Alvin, I used a Mustang tank in my '38. It's under the bed and I routed the fill tube to the driver's side. I bought a sending unit from Chev's of the 40's. It's a 30 ohm unit. I bought a 30 ohm gauge from Autometer and it hangs under the dash just left of the steering column.
If I remember correctly the tank is 36 inches wide.

Alvin, Price the tank from RockAuto. I bought a 20 gal tank, filler neck and sending unit for just over $200.00 with shipping. Like you I didn't want something that would hang to far below the frame rails. I looked at the 65-66 mustang tank and decided that I needed more volume for my application in the 59'. I went with the tank from a 69' Mustang at 20gl, it slides into the frame rails perfectly and is only about 9" tall so it hangs about 5 inches below the frame rails. Now to get it mounted.

Post some pics once you get started.

Thanks guys, I did some measuring yesterday and trying to figure "exactly" what I want to do.

Wayne, when you put in your tank did you cut out, or modify the rear cross member that the spare tire bracket bolted to???
...and does Chevs of the 40's sell a sending unit that fits the mustang tank? Just asking before I go looking and ordering. I've talked my nephew (mechanic) into doing it for me as I am not able right now.

Yes I did move the rear crossmember to the rear of the frame. My truck is a 1 ton so I don't know about a 1/2 ton frame.
I seem to remember that I moved the fill tube to the side. The sending unit does fit into the Mustang tank bung.
I installed the tank sideways so the fill tube would be on the driver's side. The sending unit bolted right to the tank.
It is a 1967 tank.
