A good friend of mine is looking to buy this truck. 1941 GMC that belonged to his grandfather. I don't know what condition the truck was in when he started on it, but he completely restored it. We've been told it has an S-10 frame under it. I don't know what engine is in it. He came to me about it's value and I really don't know what to tell him but since I signed up here I figured y'all would be much more up on pricing it. We just need a ballpark figure. His grandmother isn't trying to get top dollar or anything, but he wants to give a fair price for it as to not cause any trouble in the family. And they don't want the truck to leave the family since it meant so much to his grandfather.

So any ideas? What would you sell it to your grandson for?

$8500-$12500 to a non family member. Dealing with family is going to be much harder but once the price is agreed upon great care must be taken to insure all family members with a vested interest are good with the sale.

I am not going to be any help but say family members can be touchy. My father left a really nice Buick Lesabre. My brother wanted it. So I checked around and I thought $5000.00 would be fair. Now, this a person that brags about 3 pensions. SS, US AF E8, 23 years, and another pension from Dept. of Defense 20 years GS 12. And his wife has 40 years of GS13 Dept Of Defence. He said he would pay $4000.00 said he wanted it for his golfing car, with 3 new cars in the garage already. This might help???????????

I'm with Martin, but that's assuming the interior and undercarriage are as nice as the top side. You can't put a decent paint job on a truck for less than $10K these days.

How long it's been sitting? Four new tires will set you back $500+...

I looked at the pics of the truck after I read the first post only. The number that came to mind given the particulars was 10k. Seems fair. Nice looking truck.

That's good news. That's where we thought we would be, but weren't sure. Family dealings can get touchy for sure, it seems like him buying the truck is agreed upon, but I don't know for sure as I'm not in the middle of it.

I'm hoping something like that doesn't happen, but it's a real possibility. People can get weird with stuff like this. That link is REALLY helpful. That will give him something to show that is, less subjective, maybe? It lines up with the prices told here, so it shows you guys know your prices. No surprise there.

The interior is just as good as the exterior. I sat in the truck and it's perfect on the inside. I looked under the truck at the rear end and its great there too. All painted and clean. Does it run? I'll say no. The last tag on it was 2013, so it's safe to say it has been at least 8 years since it last ran. His grandfather has been gone for quite some time now and I'm sure it hasn't been driven since he drove it last. I'll be able to help him get it back on its' feet. I don't think it will be too bad to do, but it might be something he can use to get a better price, especially the tires. I'll run tires that I really shouldn't, but I wouldn't on a truck like that.

Thanks for your input. I think the truck is awesome. He did a great job on it. I left out that it has an automatic transmission and tilt steering wheel, so he did it right.

GMC engines start the engine SN with the displacement, I e 228xxxx, stamped on a machined pad , r side, behind the distributor. It came with a 228, although up to a 302 could also be in there. Since the GMC logo is attached to the top of the valve cover, it could be a Chevy engine, couldn’t tell from pix.

That appears to be a 230/250 engine, 63 up, with a HEI distributor added. The same engine was also used in GMC trucks through the 70's.

I think Martin is spot on. My biggest concerns would be how well they fit the body to the S-10 frame, whether it's a cobble job or nicely done.

Didn’t think to look at that. I’ll look the next time I see the truck.

If I had a shot at that truck at the price range that is being bandied about I would be thrilled.
$8500 to $12500 would be a "preferred family member" price in my opinion. Just check out bringatrailer.

Rumor is the Grandmother has set the price without outside input. We'll see how it goes.

why would they put a 230/250 straight 6 in it if it had a S-10 frame? I would think they would use the 4.3 V-6 that was available in the S-10. nice looking truck would be a bargain at that price in Calif. From what I can see of the frame it's not a S-10 frame, where are the a-arms?
