I'm putting together a PERIOD multi-carb intake for my '59 261, .080 over, 272 C.I., going in my '50 Chevy wagon, 3 speed, 4:11's, fenton headers, daily driver that will occasionally pull our '51 camper trailer weighing in at 2800lbs. I'm trying to research the best or most preferred carburators to use and well, hitting mostly road blocks or incomplete info. So I thought I'd ask what youse guys with a similar set-up are running for carbs. Anybody with Zenith, Carters and finally Rochesters with model numbers and do's and don't's please.
Many mahalo's in advance

I did try Carter YFs to begin with, though. I supose the main trick is to have them jetted the same, and to have the idle screws set the same. One word of caution; if you use the YF, make absolutly certain that they're both Chevrolet units. Some rebuilders will slip a ford jetted unit into a box for a Chevy. They're jetted very different. Namely, the ford carb is way too rich, even for a single application.

I've seen them on both GMC and ford 6 cylinders. Would have liked to have found a pair for mune, but I've been told that they tend to leak. Nice thing about the Holleys is that they're dirt simple to overhaul, parts aren't too bad to find (other than the float) and the jets interchange with virtually all Holley carbs, be they 1, 2, or 4 bbl. And the jets are easy to get and cheap!

Its a SWEET setup,,no probs. here. On my 52 suburban, i have dual carters,,its working just as well also. running Fenton dual exhaust on that also.
On my 54 panel i have a Clifford intake w/Holley 4bbl. And early(53+54) corvette dual exhaust manifold. The holley 4bbl is just a bit too much for my 6cyl. I suppose i could jet it down and it'd prolly be o.k. ...........just my dollars worth......... Marty P.S. Have another corvette dual exhaust manifold....FOR $ALE...... | | | | | Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 13 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2007 Posts: 13 | I had the vette exhaust on a '54 1/2 ton that I sold and it went to england, that truck had the best sound ever, to the point the buyer would sometimes call me and rev it for me over the phone! haha
I'll email ya on that other one
i appreciate those dollars worth's, kepp em coming, oh yeah, what model carters?

Did any aftermarket manifold company ever make one for sidedrafts on a 235/261? Some proper sized sidedraft Webers or even motorcycle ( 3 for 80ci would equal 240ci) would sure add a "cool" factor to one when you raised the hood.

Does anyone know why this will or won't work? As I said in a recent post, I found out the base of the Strombergs fit my McGurk intake while it does not fit an Edelbrock and an Edmunds that I have. The Rochester B's that I have which have a slightly larger base, fit the Edmunds and the Edelbrock. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 637 | I'm running two Rochessters on my 248 GMC with Fenton Headers. Runs great no problems, but is a bit of a gas hog. | | |
