Has anyone purchased a complete set of the fender trim and spears from Jim Carter Truck Parts? Wondering how well they fit on original fenders. Does installation instructions come with them? They look nice in the pics.
I recently purchased 2 pieces pass rear fender upper and middle...they are dead on match as opposite side...but still on back order...reason being....was told..prototype needed adjusting??.anyway when there ready to produce @$1550.00 a set people will be very very satisfied...no dates as of yet...
Rear Mouldings should follow body contour. That's how the factory mouldings were made. The hand made aftermarket mouldings usually do not follow body contour. Lower pieces run short. Like in a straight line.
Picture of rear mouldings, Left side is almost dead on. Right side is a little off.
The way the front fender is shaped compared to the rear fender, makes it easier to make the pieces for it. At any rate the higher quality re-popped lower front & rear fender mouldings should follow the body contours.
For what some folks are asking for their original pieces I think I can be satisfied with somewhat less than "perfect". There are some things I just can't justify and I don't like being taken advantage of. I have met and talked to Jim Carter on several occasions over the past 18-20 years and greatful he has invested in this venture. Perhaps the metal itself may not be somewhat thinner but Jim has produced some good stuff....like the very nice panel gas tank he had repoped two or three years ago, which is Very Good. ...that being said, I'll wait for the re-pops if I decided to put the trim on.
I know this is a really old thread but I keep contemplating the idea of getting a set of these trim pieces for my truck. I am sure at least a few of you have done this, how was the fit?
** Purchased the fender mouldings & spears from Jim Carter about a year ago for the 53 Suburban I'm doing a full frame off restoration on. They fit very well & very simple to install. Both come with directions to install. Looks great.
