In your opinions, is there a year, model, or type of turbo 350 that will work best with the NP205? Or is the 400 better?

Any year will be fine, just make sure to get the version that's set up for a 205 t-case as the output shaft and housing are not the same as 2wd or fulltime t-case models. The 400 is stonger, but not as common as the 350, and it doesn't have as low of a first gear as the 350.
You might consider the 700r4. It has an even lower first gear than the 350, plus overdrive. Advance Adapters makes an adapter to use it with a 205 t-case. Just something to consider. If you do go with the 700r4, get the late one (post '86), early models have weak pumps.

I've been reluctant to mention this as I run a 700R4 in my pickup. BUT a good friend of mine told me to get the late model 350 which has OD and we would all be more happy with it than the 700R4. He went into some detail but I can't remember it all. Maybe some good tranny guy you know can expound on it a bit?

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

Well At least with the 350/205 setup I will be able to use a front d-shaft. My current setup is being a pain in the arse. Thanks guys.

There's no such animal as a Th350 with an overdrive. Probly thinking of the 350C, which has the lockup converter.

I've got a turbo 400 with overdrive. :-) but the overdrive is a separate planetary transmission. It is called a Hono-drive, and is one of many brands that were built in late 60's and early 70's for the hot rodders and the off road market. Maybe you would be interested in persuing that option. I did a search on the net and found that there are still a lot of companies making this type of transmission. The advantage, is that it allows you to put an overdrive behind a very strong standard or automatic for less money spent. This is just one of the many I found.

Are you staying with the Mopar or going to a GM engine? A TH350/400 won't bolt up to a Mopar, or at least not without some sort of adapter. Plus there's at least 2 different patternd for GM, Chevy and BOP. It'll all depend on what you plan to run form power as to what you'll need for the trans.
