I thought I was ready to order my tranny. I called Phoenix Trans over in Weatherford (near Ft. Worth) and was told that before ordering I need to let them know what speedometer I would be running. I had not planned on making that decision of orig. or digital or whatever yet. I guess I will now. Anyone have a suggestion of what speedometer would work better with the 700 tranny?

If you have a choice of electronic or mechanical I'd start on the other end. What do you want to look at in the cab?

I would get a mechanical drive. There is a large selection of gears that are easy to change in those. Calibrating it is very easy.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

I think both mech and elect I've seen look very good and I wouldn't mind either. My main concern is ease of setup and toughness.

What kind of induction are you running? If you're running EFI that requires a speed signal you'll have to have the support for the electronic anyway. Might as well run the speedo to go with it.

Otherwise I'm a fan of the mechanical approach personally.

4 barrel carb. I was afraid of EFI because of the electronics required. I'm from the old school (1 room schoolhouse) and am more comfortable with a carburetor.

Mechanical speedo then. Anything else would not be old school!

If you want to stay old school, then you need a T350. 700R4's require electronics to control the torque converter lockup. The current crop of electronic speedos are alot simpler to cal. than changeing gears, all you have to do is drive a measured distance( Mile Marker) and hit a dip switch.

Check these gauges out http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/1106,421_5andquot;-Programmable-Electric-Speedometer.html

And as far as the trans torque lock up Ive seen a few companies that offer a kit for that
http://www.southernrods.com/categor...n/lock-up-kits/products/product-632.html
or
http://www.jetchip.com/products.asp?pid=14475

My ECM controls my 700R but when I was trying to figure out to go with EFI or a Carb set up I was looking to go that way
Hope this helps
Todd

I went with EFI and lucked out... the ECM that came with my Fuel injection kit controls the torque converter lockup,
But.. either kit would work out nice too,
"Those gauges are sweet huh ?" I think that's the way i'm going to go

Right, I will be getting those gauges. Todd, your pictures show a carb on your engine. Did you switch to EFI after the pictures? Also thanks for the link on the lock up kit. I'll be ordering that asap.

That's a GM throttle body "TBI" I installed that same set up on my 86 C20 W/454 and even went as far as Installing two GM in tank fuel pumps (dual tanks) it worked out so good I had to put one on the 51, I got a 87 blazer 25 gallon with in a tank pump for under the bed I think it will work out cool
