My 1947 3100 pickup transmission has the floor shifter. It is actually 3 forward speeds with reverse. My understanding is this transmission is factory original to this truck. How can I learn what transmission (name/model) is in my truck? Does the transmission have this information stamped on it somewhere? Thanks, Ray

The GM part number is shown here.

Maybe someone knows what the casting number is on the case?
There might also be a date casting code on the case?

Check the 1947 vehicle information kit: https://www.gmheritagecenter.com/do...hevrolet-Trucks/1947-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf

Should be a serial number stamped on the transmission somewhere. Prefix code indicates manufacturer.

Buck -- as for Ed's question, do you have to double clutch all three gears when you drive it? If yes, then they're not synchro'd.

I checked the service manual and it is a 3 forward - one reverse selective syncro-mesh transmission. I think gears 2 and 3 are sorta synchronized. Manual didn't give any name for transmission or model numbers. ray
