I rent a boat slip behind a woman's house on Long Island. She was a young 75 yrs old and a nostalgic car lover. I had told her I would bring my 1948 3100 over one day bc she had always said how much she loved the old pickups. Last Wednesday 7/29/20 I brought it by and we took a very nice ride in town. After when we got back she told me ..."Frank, you made my day....you actually made my month..." She was so happy and loved the stovebolt. Sadly the following day she suffered a very unexpected stroke and died Sunday am. I am still shocked how fast things can happen in life. A prayer for Barbara if anyone could would be a nice gesture especially for a stovebolt fan.

Good thoughts for your friend Barbara. And good thoughts for you. I'm guessing that it was more than truck ride for her, probably allowed her to re-visit some good memories from her life. Very nice gesture on your part, the world could use a few more people like you.

Your story actually brought a tear to my eye. It’s a good reminder though that we should all live our lives in such a way that we’re always ready to meet our maker.

You’ll always remember that truck ride, won’t you?!?

Life is shorter than we want to admit. Life is harder than we can imagine. Time is not on our side and timing is everything. Im sure Barbara is telling all of her long lost friends she just reunited with about the awesome person you are and the sweet ride you took her on, in a way cool truck. Sorry for your loss.

There are plenty of guys among us like Frank. The problem is, speaking for myself, l allow life to get in the way of making more gestures like the one Frank describes.
I have done a couple of things like this, but I could do more.
There is a 4 year old kid who lives across the street with a very rare muscle disorder. He had to be carried everywhere until recently, when his parents got him power wheel chair equipped with a ventilator which he needs to breathe. The kid is smart as a whip and very polite and respectful and a real treat to talk to. I can't take him for a ride in my truck, but one day while he was out in the street, driving his power chair like a boss, I went over to give him a real nice chrome Chevrolet script which goes on the dash of an early 50's Bel air. After I handed it to him, he thank me with his big boy voice, and held it in his hand like it was the best present ever. He had his dad mount it on "Big Red", his power chair.
I do believe that he made my day more than I made his.

A prayer for Barbara for sure. It was so nice that you could fit in that ride before she passed. You didn't know that you were fitting it in but good on you.

So sorry for the loss of your friend, at least you know in your heart you brought a smile to her face.

Memories......that is what its all about. Hopefully we all do good things like Frank so that when we can't do the everyday things our memory will suffice us when that time comes.

Frank, thanks for sharing and for the reminder. We can have more of an impact on folks more than we know. No matter what the age kindness is never forgotten.

You did the right act as I know all of you would. Prayers for Barbara. We had a little program here but it faded away. Some of us would seek out through local nursing homes and friends family members. With someone to assist and as a chaperone we would give the older folks a ride in one of our old cars or trucks. Guaranteed smile and many times a good memory came from it. Doc.

Excellent work, Frank! But it's not a sad story at all. Hopefully, it is just the last couple of pages in a triumphant final chapter of a 75-year long happy story. And YOU got to be in it and make it so. Good on ya, Shipmate! Bravo!

Strokes SUCK but Barbara caught as good a one as they come, in my opinion. But what a grand finale! That's how I want to go -- have a great last day, fall asleep with a smile and flooded with happy memories and wake up in the arms of my Savior.

It`s these nebulous relationships that old trucks bring forth to many. More than just steel and rubber, these trucks define a bit of humanity and hope for us all. Just look into the relationships, community and family the old trucks spawn. My thoughts go out to Barbara and Frank who could share joy and sorrow through a Stovebolt. For me I was awaiting the day to really start the restoration of the old 53 Chevy. I hoped that soon I would bring renewed life back to the old truck my buddy Buzz traded a bicycle for. I looked forward to sharing a ride with him in the future. As things go, so did Buzz who died unexpectedly a few months ago. Never got to take that ride but now as I scrape the grease and shine the bolts back to their original luster I think often of the friend and the joys that come from spending time together.

You are a good Man, Carl

That four year old is a good Kid.
