I have a 262/265 cu. in 1996 v-8 out of a caprice classic. Can it be set up for a manual tranny ? with a carb and a distributor ? and what about the water pump and vibration damper. With the stock exaust manifolds on it will it fit in a stock 50 chevy 3100? /on second thought does anyone want to buy this jewel ? Only 70 thou miles on it. I believe a chevy v-8 can be put in and hooked up to an original 3-speed a nd somehow use the original starter. I am of semi-sound mind .Thanks for serious answers. 50 chevy 3100

That engine would be one of the toughest small blocks to convert. The ignition is run off of the crankshaft (at the front of the engine), the waterpump is driven by the camshaft and would take a special intake to use a carb. After that, making a clutch set-up work with your old truck would be the next headache. Best way to fit it would be to use the engine and trans with an aftermarket stand alone computer system to control them (if they make one).
That all said, those engines do run very well for the CID they have,
Scott

A friend of mine is trying to get a Caddy Northstar set-up in his '51 Chev secan. Been working on it for 4 years now. Still not running. Too many sensors, modules, solenoids, etc. He wishes he'd just put in an older 350.
