The splined, tapered shaft on the steering gear, and the corresponding splined taper on the arm form a very tight fit. I usually use a 3/4" drive impact wrench on the puller. A lot of them actually have a couple of bolts that keep the puller jaws from spreading out and slipping off. Some auto parts stores will rent that type of tool, with a big security deposit. Jerry

'54 GMC 630 w/ 503 gasser, 5 speed, ex fire truck, shortened WB 4', install 8' bed. '55 GMC 370 w/270, 420 4 speed, grain, dump bed truck from ND. Works OK.
