Done! Finally! Ground the splines down on the transmission Saturday with a Dremel and the clutch now fully disengages. Took it for a test drive and wow! Night and day from the original 3-speed even around town.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Hey Josh.....good to hear it's operational!!!! The key to it all is in the splines. Your hard work has paid off!

When you guys swap in these T-5's, do you install a hydrolic clutch or keep the old mechanical linkage?

I kept my original linkage,throw-out bearing and pressure plate.I know some have used the hydraulic throw-out bearing.I can't tell you anything about the hydraulic conversion.I bet you could do a search on it and find some info.

The only thing that has to be changed is the clutch disc. Find one with a 14 spline 1" hub that has similar dimensions to the one you pull out of the truck. The original bell housing (on 1947 and later models), pressure plate, throw out bearing, and clutch linkage can be used.

What did you do about fitting the shift lever? I've installed a T5 in my '42 1/2t with a stock seat and the shift lever needs some major bending to be able to operate properly.

steveg - You answered your own question. That's exactly what I did to my shifter, I bent it.

steppenwood,

nice adapter plate for the T-5 conversion. Would your son be willing to sell one?

Thanks

Dave

I just finished my T-5 swap today with the drive shaft instal.
My adapter was made by Buffalo Enterprises in Washington.
IMHO the shifter in an old truck should reflect the measure of the man drivin it. This did not work as the throw on the box is long with the given heght, not to mention knocking the rear view out of alignment everytime I shifted into 4th or hit my passengers in the head trying for reverse.
What I did do was cut and grind opposing notchs in both the T-5 and factory 3 speed shift levers, clamped them together, and welded them at the seams. This gives me a factory shifter with hegight just below the steering wheel. The throw is a bit long but I plan to remedy this with a Hurst or B&M shifter kit.
Have a picure of two if interested.
