Hello. Doing some work on my 47 3100 with the original 216 engine and noticed one of the freeze plugs is leaking. It's just below the water pump and looks to be about 2 inches. Can someone tell me the exact size and where I can get one without having to by a set? Thanks.

Hello guys. Can someone help me out on this please? I took the plug out today. I never saw one like it. It's flat like a 2 inch washer with no hole in it probably 1\8 inch thick. Went to the local Napa but they did not have one and could not get one. Can someone give me a source to order one?
Not sure about now but back when I delivered commercial parts for Advance Auto they had a "bin" with freeze plugs of different sizes and some different shapes. Give them a try......if no luck, look for the oldest longest running parts store in your area. You may have to try one somewhere around Laurens, Easely or even Spartanburg.....like the old Spartan Automotive place which is now a carquest but they use to do machine work/rebuilds.

This is $5.50 for 10 or $5.79 for 1. Unless a cup type would hit something inside the hole or black flow, a cup type would be better/easier to install. you can get a brass 2" diameter cup type which will never rust.

Every auto parts store in the world carries freeze plugs. I find it hard to believe you got turned away by NAPA. It’s not even an odd size. You can use either one as long as it is the right circumference but as bartamos said the one on the right is easier for a novice to install.

Make sure of the diameter. The disc type are installed with the "dome"/convex facing out. You hammer on it and it expands like a giant welch plug (carbs). The cup type is just pressed/tapped in. if the hole has a ridge/a stop inside, I believe that means you have to use the disc.

I believe I used a #2 permatex sealant on mine years ago. Had a machinist recommend I use it on the expansion plugs,it stays soft and doesn't harden up .

My wife ran out of things to clean yesterday. Today I believe she cleaned the soap in the soap dish in the Man bathroom, which is 49 square feet (Thought I'd send bartamos over the cliff with another dimensional measurement.) (Sorry mod, I could not stop myself. Theses are indeed trying times.)

34 Years. Now with a '61 261, 848 head, Rochester Monojet carb, SM420 4-speed, 4.10 rear, dual reservoir MC, Bendix up front, 235/85R16 tires, 12-volt w/alternator, electric wipers and a modern radio in the glove box.
Just got 10 of them ordered. Never had seen one like that before. Could not find one on ebay that looked like that for the 216. Spent the day cleaning the motor trying to get it ready for paint. Thanks again for your help and sure I will have more questions the further I go.
