Will it bolt up? thanks! | | | | | Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 14 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2016 Posts: 14 | The sm420 will work if you use the correct bell housing with the 265, big issue is if it's a early 265 that didn't have the 3 bolt mounts on the sides of block. Goes with out saying ur going to fab or use a kit mount that bolts to front of block | | | | | Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 892 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2014 Posts: 892 | Are you swapping for a 265 because you have one or for more power? If so, consider that a 261 is only four cubic inches less and at usable truck RPM (say 2500) has just about as much torque. And it's a way easier swap. 1951 3800 1-ton"Earning its keep from the get-go"In the DITY Gallery1962 261 (w/cam, Fenton headers, 2 carbs, MSD ign.), SM420 & Brown-Lipe 6231A 3spd aux. trans, stock axles & brakes. Looks identical, side mounts can be ground off if you want them gone, more(!) power, easier parts.

When they put the 307 in mine they shifted the steering box slightly to the left. It works ok for what it's used for, but the tire does rub against it on a hard left turn. | | |
