For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 | Hello fellas this is my first time in the hipo shop Iam usually in the paint and body .My problem is not on a truck but a boat with a GM engine. It all started with the old quadra jet flooding, fuel pouring all over,so I get a kit have a good mechanic install it,works fine for one tank of fuel about fourty gallons. Then it does it again, same thing, throw the quad away and buy a brand new edelbrock marine carb which worked great at cruise but when I come of step and try to cruise under 1200 rpm she floods ,not to the point of boiling over but the engine just loads up with fuel.I have a brand new raycor fuel filter and a manual pump which I tested,it had 4.5 on the gauge.I tryed a new pump but it was no good out of the box,Iam thinking of going with an electric, with a fuel presure regulator, but come on it's just a 305 with a four barrel help!!!!!1 | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 510 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 510 | I had the same problem on a Chevy smallblock with an Edelbrock fuel pump. If flooded and leaked gas (even caught fire once) and all sorts of unpleasant stuff...with several different carbs.
I, too, put a pressure gauge on it and the pressure appeared to be fine. But out of desperation I put a pressure regulator on it, turned it down almost to its mininmum setting and never had another problem with it. Regulators are cheap...I think I paid under $20 for it...and it might be worth a try. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 | Thanks for the reply chevy,my nieghbour just said something interesting. He asked where I mounted my raycour fuel filter, before or after the pump, well I mounted it before and it is quite a filter ,he feels my pump may not have enough vacume at low rpm to suck through all that crap and maybe it is starving not flooding mmmmmmmmmmmmm...? | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 510 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 510 | Well, that fuel filter thing otta be easy enough to diagnose. Just bypass it with a length of hose. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 128 | Just checked the filter,it's got water in it drain the tank oh boy, what a chore in a boat ,good thing I've got a vacume recovery unit oh ya the filter is in the right place should have checked this first!!!!!! | | |
