Now, what-cha up to?

There is a 1/2 inch difference between the two input shafts. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 145 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: May 2005 Posts: 145 | I just double checked some part numbers on the B&M site. If you check part #20480, it fits TH350, TH375, TH400 & TH425. I think there *were* infact, TH400 with a different input shaft (as mentioned) in the early 60's. Don't hold me to this, but I believe they were compatible with the early *switch-pitch* converters. As a related sidebar, in the 80's I had a friend with a budget 427 Chevelle drag car who ran a 10-inch junkyard Vega TH350 convertor in a TH400. I don't condone using stock Vega converters behind BBCs but it works! er, for a while anyway <grin>. It stalled around 3500 RPM for 2 seasons, then started getting looser in the middle of the third summer of racing. The cars slowed at that point too. As long as the tires were spinning, he had no problems. The truck was not street legal so it held up well. I put a t400 into my 84 chev and it didnt work, but like you said it was an old t400 that i was using. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 299 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 299 | thanx guys, any other input is welcome. Lothar PS, the weather is great here in the lower mainland right now ,eh Motorhead? Are you going to the Langley cruise in in Sept? | | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 25 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 25 | In 1984 the trans would have been a 350C which is a 350 trans with a lockup converter. The input shaft on the 350C is longer to supply oil to the lockup clutch. The 350C converter will not work with a 400 trans. From the info I've seen the switch pitch converters were not an option in Chevy models. The converters from a 350 or 400 are interchangeable.
