There were several changes made in flywheel markings from the 216 to various years of 235. The best approach is to find the actual TDC point using the "positive stop" method, marking that spot, and using a delay-flash timing light to monitor what the actual advance is where the engine runs best. The BB is just a place to start with.

Since the 216 era fuel was much lower octane than today, factory timing marks will likely be far too retarded for ideal performance. Once you get it started & warmed up, adjust to the fastest & smoothest idle, lock it down and readjust the idle. I time my '38 and '53 by ear. I got a lot of extra pep out of the '53 by doing that. If I'm wrong in my assessment I'm sure Jerry will let me know.
