Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | All the valve covers I have ever seen are held down with the 2 acorn nuts. Has anybody ever seen one that used the 4 hold down bolts on the later 235/261's? I'm going to make my own and I think they're in the way. Any pic's of custom or aftermarket ones are appreciated.

Unfortunaly the have no pictures. So you have to call or drop them a line. Please let me know if you found out the difference between those two covers. I want to buy one for my 261. They send longer studs that go thru the rocker stands. I bought a new on in the late 70s and that is what offy sent. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 1,513 | Thank's for the link Stovebold. It does give me more ideas. That rules out Offy. All others seem to have the 2 holes in the top. i don't even want an oil fill in mine. Wayne,Edmunds,Clifford,Fenton, etc. all seem the same. Has nobody made one using the 4 bolts?

The studs were simple to install, and real positive bolt down, no leaks.
Suggest you use the 216 valve cover gasket. You will likely need to make or get a spacer to install between the head and the thermostat housing. An option might be to shave the rear of the thermostat housing (it may not be thick enough to get claerance this way). This is necessary because the thicker aluminum cover fits the OUTSIDE perimeter of the original flanged cover. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | I think PES makes what you want. Santucci's book on the L22 inlines has a picture of one. | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2004 Posts: 920 | I took the paint off my original, sanded it to a shiny raw metal finish and had it powdercoated with a high temp clear coat for $20. Mine has the chevy script which I like, but I believe there are originals of different years with no script. Just an idea. | | |
