I've bought two different flywheel covers and neither one fits. The last one I got has the cutout for the bellhousing mounts but the rear tab won't clear the oil pan to seat. Is there a certain way it can only go on? A picture perhaps. 1960 261 3 speed. Any help is appreciated.

I have had to trim a little metal off of them before.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Not sure of years as there are some notched and others not. The flat upper installs first.

Are the V-8 and IL-6 covers interchangeable?

I'm not 100% sure but do not believe they interchange due to different bellhousings on 216/235/261 and the V8 and later sixes. A study of the later Master Parts List books might help in determining if the same part number carries across from 216/235/261 to later engines.
I've also met similar looking pans with different (and incompatible) profiles on the joint line between upper and lower segments.

I was surprised to find there were more than two kinds. The repops are often marketed as universal fit.

It's been my experience that nothing from the V-8 engine (and 63 up 6 cylinder) and bellhousing will interchange with the 216/235/261 series engine/bellhousing. One exception would be some of the clutch release forks.

There are early and late versions of the flywheel cover. The change occurs somewhere around when the 235 got insert bearings.

The one I need has cutaways on each side and a crescent cutaway up front. I have a picture in truck parts wanted.
