Regarding fenders: the 57 front fenders are very similar to the 55.2 and 56, but are slightly different. Due to the unique grill used on the 57, the fenders have a flat spot and mounting hole at the sides of the grill opening to attach the grill surround. With a little bodywork, a 57 fender can be used on the 55.2 and 56 - I had to do that on mine...

Our gallery has 37 1957's shown with emblem, 11 are backwards. 30%

It looks like there are 2 of us that get upset over that. Actually not many folks know what an honest factory stock Task force truck looks like in all the details. Just sad so many have been ruined.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks.
Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

I would add the steering column & wheel differences 55.2 - 56 as compared to 57 - 59. Flat wheel vs dished wheel with corresponding column length differences.
Also, brake line routing to rear end differences between 55.2 - 57 (on right side) as opposed to most 58 - 59 (on left side)

Don't think these have been mentioned already but fleetside beds were 58 and 59 only and stainless bed trim was 59 only.

Good to know. Although, how did the Cameo style beds end up on these models? Seems a rarity...but was this an option?

Keep in mind, John wants this Guide to be simple to used as viewed from 20' away. You can identify the year of any Task Force 1/2 to 1-ton Pickup, Cameo, Suburban, Panel or Flat Bed just by looking at the front clip...

aah, the mid-50s to the mid-60s. . . . a time of simple designs and stability . . . and the advent of the GM V-8

I think that 58 was the last year for the cameo as the fleetsides replaced it.

Just a question. Were the large back windows another designation? I have a 59' 3104 it has the small rear window.

Any series or model could have been ordered with the Big Back Window (BBW) and it's my understanding ALL of the Cameo's had it. My 1956 8400 Tow Truck has it...

Why do you think they designed rear glass louvers....correct to cut down on the sun for vehicles equipped with BIG back glass. Would make sense a TF cab with a small window would have more rigidity. Plus, your not in a motion picture show when being followed from behind.

I agree, the BBW put you in the fish bowl...I like the small widow better, but I do have great visibility when backing the tow truck up!

Forgot to mention earlier, the '55 fender emblems have a white background and the '56 have a black background.

The 58 had a V in the emblem on the front of the hood.

As did the 59...thanks for adding that to the list!

1955 was the only year to not have a "V" on the hood emblem for factory installed V8 engines .

I have liked and loved all of the series. My favorites are my 52 5 window short utility, 1958 Fleetside, 59 GMC big window stepside, 66 C10 big window (triple dog dare truck) and the one I am working on now, a 1960 1/2 ton small window short fleetside.
