Have a 1957 235 in my project 37 1/2 ton. Looking for a air cleaner that has 2 5/8 throat. Cannot seem to find one as most are all 2 1/4". Anyone have any answers to why this carb is bigger, or what year air cleaner would fit this? The carb is a Rochester B and has a auto choke. Thanks for any help with this. Bill

Sounds like a BC if it is auto choke. Does it have the center post for mounting the air cleaner? I'm away from my notes, but as I recall all those had a larger opening. When I used one of those I had to get an air cleaner from a Dodge to fit it...or at least that was the only one at the junk yard which fit. I've seen where you can get 2 5/8" adapters for some of the cheaper type air cleaners.

Yes it has a 1 1/2" threaded 1/4" bolt sticking up. What year Dodge did you get it off.thanks Bill

2-5/8" is a standard air horn diamete for Stromberg 97s and Holley 94 carbs. You shouldn't have any issue finding an aftermarket filter for those.

I made my own adapter so I could use an off the shelf 4 bbl air cleaner. I cut the front and back off a headlight bucket to make a funnel shaped adapter. The bolt needs to be replaced with a longer one.

It was an air cleaner from a slant six...couldn't tell you the year. Lots of it had been stripped when I got the air filter. Nice thing about it is the elements are still available (FRAM) and $5.75 each on Amazon Prime...shipping included. If you want when I get home I'll send an image of it.

I believe the Rochester 2G series 2-barrels have an air horn diameter that's close to that size. There are untold thousands of those air cleaners decorating salvage yards around the country!

Thanks Jerry, I have searched my local scrap yard and looks to me like the first thing that's tore off the vehicles is the air cleaner. Will keep looking.

This should be right for your carburetor and it has the PVC nipple as well (which could be plugged or used if you add PVC...which isn't a bad idea at all).
