If you are coming thru St. Louis, take I-64 into St. Louis.
It will hook you back up to I-70 west of St, Louis.
You will get a great view of the Arch and riverfront.

Another good place to stop for a break is Crane's store, Williamsburg, Mo. 1/2 mile off I-70 in mid mo.
Country store that is like walking back into a 1930's country store. TPR57C, (Tim) is hard to get out of there.

Booneville Mo. will also be having their Thresher Show that weekend.
Vicki and I are always headed to KC and don't have time to stop.
But it is a big show and you can see it as you drive by on I-70.

I never stopped at Country Classics because Goggle Maps said it was 40 miles out of my way each way. But with the change in the BBQ to Fri, I stopped. It is only 15 miles north of 270 so I have been there twice.

My Mother lived in High Ridge, she used to take us to Ted's when we would visit. I remember thinking that all these people are crazy to stand in line for Ice Cream, that was the first time, after that "Hey no problem" . Haven't been there in a long while, Mom passed away in 2008. I do tell folk to stop in there if their going that direction. (Oh.. I not originally from Georgia, that's another story)

Went thru there many times years ago. Hwy 30 was all two lane then.
Summer time swimming and jumping off the bridge at Cedar Hill into the Big River.
There was also an old Mafia hangout in High Ridge back during the probation years. (spelling?)

If Joe, (too many to count) doesn't bring John wheels to the Reunion.
I may do a St. Louis road trip this fall.

Rusty Rod is taking a longer way around. I'm dropping off some car parts in Iowa, at the intersection of I 29? and I80. I'll also have a big ole boat anchor in the bed of my truck.

Yeah, that's how good a Chevy is. From atop the trailer...it can use the same principle as wireless charging for your cellphone.

Final preparations underway for the trip to Kansas City! I got the new radio installed last night, so I have tunes now. I also have to make some adjustments to the chain drive of the winch. I have a bit of clean-up to do on the truck, and I'm ready to go.

I think I'm going to stop by Arrow Rock, and visit the Bucksnort Trading Company along the way. There may be a chance for a photo-op with Mater at Arrow Rock.

Rusty Rod is rolling out at about 0330 Friday morning. Rusty will take CO34 to I 76, to I80 through Omaha and stop to drop off brand parts in Council Bluffs IA. The meeting spot is at the Cracker Barrel at the intersection of I80 and I29.
Once the deal is done, Rusty will head south on I29 to KC and probably just park at the Super8 all week end.... that is unless yall want to see my surprise. The road home will be I70 to I25.

Well I made it it took me 10 hrs of steady 60 mph in scorchinheat and hummidy. Got 17 mpg better than what I thought would happen. The oil pressure dropped on one gauge btw ibhavev2.. Got in about 6pm and had a nice steak dinner. They are predicting 83. Had the usually delays at the gas pumps you have constantly watch or it spillover flow. It is 2.09 here will try to go back to sleep. If spell check does not correct I wwill not. I am on my phone.

It's 5am right now and I woke up, then couldn't get back to sleep. So here I am typing again.
Vicki and I should be on the road by 10am and that should get us to the show grounds about 2pm today.
We still have a lot of loading to do.

If you want something to do.Take Hwy 9 into KC. As soon as you go across the river, get off at the first exit.
It will take you right down to the River Market.
It has a lot of shops and restaurants. Also the Arabia Steamboat Museum.

Thanks, Tim and I did and you did say extras? I have a hard time understanding Aussie but you are coming along by being with Don the southern linguist.

The '19 Reunion was my first road trip with Mater. Being unsure of how things would go, I took I-70 from Columbia for the first 30 miles, until I could exit onto some secondary highways for the remainder of the trip. If I was going to have a breakdown along the way, I didn't want it to be alongside the interstate.

I was able to keep up with traffic at 70-75mph, but the old 235 was working hard at it. I don't know how much the boom in the bed weighs...plus the aerodynamic drag at interstate speeds, means the engine is working pretty hard. The truck seems to enjoy 60-65mph much better. After filling up with gas both legs of the trip, I estimate I was getting 12-14mpg...not too bad I suppose, but I was expecting better...that's a topic for another thread.

I took a slightly different route back home. While running down the back highways, I came across this:

The shop was closed, so I knocked on the door of the adjacent house; no answer. I walked down the shoulder of the road to survey the crop of vehicles, when a car pulled up to the house. The gentleman was looking Mater over as I walked back to the truck. We struck up a conversation...the shop is still an active business...he didn't have much time to talk as he was picking up his elderly mother for evening church services. I asked permission to take photos from outside the fence (because I'm a polite fellow). He said certainly; to come by during business hours, and I could walk around the yard.

These wide-angle photos were taken from the roadside ditch, outside the fence.

So, on my way home from the truck show, I was treated to another show! A pleasant way to finish the trip!

This past Monday, I drove back over to visit. I had noticed some '61 pickups and some '59-'60 Impalas, so I was hoping to score a few parts.

There were a couple of vehicles being repaired when I arrived, so business was booming! I walked around the yard looking for parts, and took some close-up photos of several of the vehicles. Many components have already been harvested, and the vehicles have been sitting there a long time. All of the Impalas I looked at already had their dashes removed, and the '61 pickups were of a lower trim level than mine...no parts for me that day!

With an eye toward stovebolts, I looked over many trucks. Some still had the engines in them, a few still had the carbs and manifolds...everything looked pretty toasted. What is beneficial here, are the sheet-metal body parts, and lots of trim pieces. Most of the trucks still had the seat frames. Some pieces of glass were good, but most had been broken or shot out by hooligans.

If someone was struggling to find some unobtainable parts, this might be a potential source.
