Pete and Jakes sent me pictures of my front axle they had Super Bell make for me. My spindles are getting altered and when I get them back I will send them to them and they can finish it. It is super strong.
I have a 4 inch drop axel from Sid's in OK. I found that with 15 inch wheels the axel is the lowest point, not real good if you have a flat. After doing some figuring, if I use 17 inch wheels everything will clear. My only issue is that I wanted to run 15 inch raised white letter (RWL) tires, no one make a RWL in 17 inch. I have a set of pristine 15 inch Corvette Rallys. So I'm still looking at wheels... Nice Chrome .

Like tuts, I also did the 4” dropped axle with 15” rims. If I blow a tire my axle is 1/2 off the road. If the tire comes off the rim, my axle will become a plow. My front axle is roughly 4.5” off of the pavement. Double check your scrub line to ensure that you are good. PM me if you want pictures!

Not quite. Since drop axles are arced in the center, if your tire comes off the rim the opposite tire will still be supporting your axle on that side, tipping it up sufficiently to avoid ground contact on the flat side. Feel better now?
My axel is a factory OEM, Sid's heats and stretches the ends to the drop desired, once done it's again hardened. I may be looking a it differently but on mine the center seem lower than the ends. With a 235/60/15 I have about 3.5 - 4 inches of clearance. Either way it's plenty low, if I had to do it over I would have gone with a 2 inch.

Chris, Did you remove any of the leafs from the front springs? I removed 3 in hopes it would soften up the ride a bit, also added a sway bar front and rear.

Originally, I removed half of the springs. After talking to everyone, I put them all back in! I also added a sway /anti roll bar to the front, which made a major handling difference! I am considering a steering dampener in the future.
What was the reasoning behind putting the leafs back in, stiffen up the front end? I am just putting the frame back together so not to far along to make any changes. I have MONROE GAS magnums for shocks.

I had concerns about breaking a leaf spring. I talked to many old guys that talked me into putting them in. It rides just fine with all of them and I like the way it looks.
Marty, just checked out your pics in the gallery. Love your wheel and tire combination. The truck doesn't look that low for a 4" drop axel.

My truck was lowered 5" but on gravel roads, I scooped up gravel and then on the highway it would throw the gavel all over. My front end is a Pacer and in the rear is a lowered Nova rear axel.

So now the question, how low is too low. The roads in the South aren't trill of pot holes and ruts like else where, but realalisticaly what's practical? The 59 is not going to be a show truck by any means, it days as a work horse are probably over too.
