Hi all,

I went to replace the headlight switch on my 57 pickup and removed the switch knob with ease. When I tried to remove the retaining nut with a flat head screwdriver, I found the nut to be frozen in place. I tried spraying w-d40 in the hole and around it, but that made no difference. My question is, can I just drill into it to break it free?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Sergio

Sergio,

If your 1957 switch is similar to the 1955nd switch, the button that TPR57C refers to is the SWITCH SHAFT RETAINER spring-loaded "button" show in Fig. 11.

Thanks guys. I was able to press the button and get the shaft out easily. My issue is that I need to remove the switch itself and the threaded nut that holds the switch to the dash is frozen. You suppose to be able to take a flat head screwdriver and unscrew the retaining nut easily, but that's not the case here.

Sergio,
Recommend using PB Blaster if you think corrosion is the issue. You may need to use a screwdriver like you would a chisel and using a hammer lightly tap the nut counterclockwise to get it to loosen up. Good luck.

All,

I was able to drill out the retaining nut and break the old switch loose without damaging anything.

Thanks!
