Hi everyone. We just got a '49 3100 5 window. I am not familiar with these trucks. I have a few questions if you guys don't mind. 1. The VIN looks odd on the title? 2. The passenger fender has vents but the drivers side doesn't 3. There is something under the passenger side dash. I have attached photos of what I am asking about.
Hello Kasey as far as the title goes the should be a plate one the drivers side. Open the door and compare the two. The picture is the heater for the truck. Best of luck with your new toy.
1) There is no VIN, but there is a Serial Number. What's odd looking about it? Post the number for us, that will tell where it was made, when it was made, what series the truck is, and what number off the line it was that year.
2) Passenger side has a vent, cause that's where fresh air is going to enter, to go into #3 below.
3), Appears to be a Fresh Air Heater/Defroster, mounts to the passenger side, takes air from the outside vent above.
Welcome to the Stovebolt madness. There is no cure!
Please remember to post questions in the appropriate garage forum. Look over the various forums and pick the one where the particular part of the truck you have a question about would fit in. Good score, you’re in for a lot of fun.

The 49 came with a fresh air intake on the drivers side cowl. 51 thru 53 did not have a vent as they were replaced with wing windows. Looks like you have a good solid truck to start your project. Welcome to Stovebolt!
I also noticed that the hood seems to be from a 52 or 53, as those years didn’t have the 3100 badge on the hood, only the Chevrolet emblem.

Welcome to the Stovebolt......a lot of parts interchange on the AD style pickup you have and no telling what happened over the years. There are certain clues to narrow things down for you though.
.....as mentioned, ask those questions in the most appropiate garage forum and you'll get all the answers. We are here to help.
One thing that concerns me is the frame in the second photo. Because these trucks originally had 6 lug rims/hubs, has this truck been transplanted onto a newer frame? Is the frame spliced? Was it done well?
