I have a 1954 Chevy Suburban that I've just acquired. Unfortunately, the interior is missing a few things.

I've found some boat window pulls but the latches I understand are different between the splitters and the catfish trucks. Jim Carter has:

Will these work but only be aesthetically different or does anyone know if holes are different? I have NOTHING to go on and have only managed to find one picture of them and that was through Tim's page on his blue burb.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The original stainless window pulls span the entire glass from top to bottom & each one has a tab on it that interlocks with the spring lock on the body. { 2 lefts & 2 rights }.

As far as I know the marine pulls are only about 3" long ... Link to pulls

If you use the replacement marine pulls, there will be no provision to lock the glass to the tabs on the body no matter which ones you use.



You might be able to buy a couple more of the marine tabs & create a locking tab for the bottom of each glass.

Thanks. That's the first I've seen of them so didn't know what the bottoms looked like. I have the pieces that are on the outside glass but not the inside.I'll get a look at them. Do you sell these? What is their typical price? Is there a difference between the years that you are aware of?

It looks like the pull is only the few inches and the long pieces are on the outside. The spring stop looks like it could activate on the glass edge.

The rear side-window pulls changed (maybe in 1953) to the "short" style that I have on my 1954 (they are original).

There are different widow "tab locks" than shown by MT for an earlier Suburban. You can see a tab-lock near the bottom-middle of the window opening in that picture of Maureen at my Suburban's "coming out" (from a nine-year restoration) 50th birthday party on the 4th of July 2004. We had a grand time at that party.

I'll see if I can find the listing in the Master Parts Book, if anyone is interested (and/or if you are not able to access an online or hardcopy Master parts Catalog). Chasing down Suburban parts in a MPB is sometimes interesting/challenging. If you find the listing on-line, please post the link.

My '53 burb has the long pulls so, it looks like they went to the short pulls in 1954.

I have always wondered why some of the locking tabs I have seen have a hard plastic/rubber coating on them & now I know why.

When they eliminated the long pulls they had to insulate the locking tab from bare metal contacting the glass & the plastic/rubber coating was added to the tabs.


Original factory photo does confirm that the short pulls were used in 1954.

I might be incorrectly reading/translating these parts.

And/or, maybe factories used up old parts before moving on the new parts?

I'm glad you guys have the photos of the long pulls. If you have pictures of the latches for these, please post as well. It is hard enough to find them as it is so having them all in one post would be great.

I'm really interested in what I need for the 54 as far as the latches go. I'll live with the marine pulls that MT posted but I don't know what changed that would keep me from using the parts Jim Carter has listed in one of my earlier posts. It could be that there is a coating added as MT says. I'm not averse to plasti-dip if that's really all I need! I don't want to do a $40 experiment to find out I can't use the ones listed. I'll pull a surround off one of my windows in the next few days to see if I can see the bolt pattern. Maybe MT or someone else can tell me if that looks remotely similar to the older trucks. I'm not sure why it is listed as a mid-1952 part. Something obviously changed for late 52-53 but if MT still has long pulls for 53 still it isn't because the pulls changed!

Jim Carters repop tabs are the same as the ones for the full stainless pulls.

Yep, http://1954advance-design.com/Web%2...op/stop-and-stationary-SS-vertical_7.jpg these are the 2 key parts I'm missing. The bent tab that locks the glass in place and the pulls. Looks like the JC repops probably won't pull far enough forward for the glass to go by.
