Doing the front cross member now & need to do the rear next. My question is what would be a decent axle for a 1954 Chevy 3100? It will be mated up to a 454 & a T10 4 speed. I will be getting a 4 link as well. Thank You...

Any later rear axle with 6 lug bolt pattern, and desirable ratio.

I will be using an axle from I believe a 76 or 77 blazer. seems to be about the right width which is all that matters cause you'll be changing all the mounts any how. I have all the parts, just no time.

With the torque that powertrain setup will have available, the obvious choice is a 9" Ford axle- - - -the same basic gearset the NASCAR guys use. Try one from a 1970's Econoline 150 van for approximately the right tread width. There's a trainload of specialty parts and pieces for that axle- - - -limited slip carriers, disc brakes, etc. and any gear ratio you can dream up, also.

Agreed, went back and reread post and see Jupiter did not note 6 lug, the mention of 6 lugs was the next post. I chose the blazer axle to keep 6 lugs.

OOPS! I just realized I fat-fingered a key there- - - - -should have typed 9", not 8"! Here's a few ideas about building a custom-fit rear axle capable of handling a beaned-up big block Chevy:
