How important are plug wires. I understand that they are CRITICAL for operation. But is there a noticeable difference between the $100 set and the $20 set? Not high performance or race application. Just in your everyday driving rig.

Electronic and HEI systems require at least an 8mm carbon type wire. Wire core is not recommended for these systems. A good 7mm carbon type wire would work on your year truck with the stock points distributor. Probably $35 to $50 at most auto parts stores. Fred

There are several variables however, depending what you are using for an exhaust system. The HEI ignition was introduced in 1975, they also used manifolds on small blocks that were located below the spark plugs. So the wires were on top of the engine over the rocker covers. Earlier rams horn manifolds typically had the plug wires under the manifolds which looks much cleaner in most applications.. Subsequently a stock set for a factory HEI wouldn't work well with rams horns. If you have rams horns and can find a set that is longer and specifically made for that set up, that would be my suggestion. If you have headers, you're on your own. Fred

I just installed Headers so I'll figure it out.
Buckshot,
AC Delco sounds great to me!!
Kind of along the same lines- should I be using a different plug if I went to HEI?
