Just wondering if anyone has used this product Evans engine coolant. I overheard some people at a car show talking about it, seems like an overpriced Very expensive ( $40.00 a gallon) gimic to me. Anybody have any thoughts on this? I've always used 50/50 regular anti freeze It doesn't get that cold down here in South Louisiana, never had any problems with it. Just kind of wondering what it is that makes younger people think this stuff is the greatest thing since sliced bread? I think it is just a marketing thing, the latest greatest whatever has to be better.

I bought 5 gallons about 20 years ago, when I had more money than time (to consider the implications). The containers are unopened in my garage. I’ll give them away, if you pick them up at my house/garage in NC.

I thought about getting it but the only advantage I can see is it does not have water so if it overheats it will not boil over. Since I have installed my new radiator I have no overheating problems just the opposite it does not get hot enough especially in cooler weather.

Yep- - - -it's a gimmick. Propylene Glycol was also sold under the brand name "Safety Freeze" at a LOT lower price than that stuff. P.T. Barnum would be proud of the sales pitch they are using to reel in the suckers!

Peak sells propylene glycol under the brand name "Sierra"- - - - -but it's still a "concentrate" that needs to be diluted with water to function properly. It's on Ebay right now for $26.99 a gallon- - - -plus $10.00 shipping.

Propylene gylcol is slightly less toxic than Ethylene glycol. But unless you dilute both with water, they don't perform well as a coolant. In concentrated form, they don't transfer heat nearly as well as either 50/50 solution or plain water. As far as coolant efficiency, water is about the best you can get, The problem with plain water is that it's VERY hard to pump below about 32F.

Straight antifreeze- - - - -either ethylene or propylene based, starts getting "slushy" at around 19 degrees ABOVE zero. A 70% concentration of ethylene glycol (30% water) freezes at -68 degrees F. A 50/50 mix goes to -37 F. If it ever gets that cold in Tennessee, I'm going to catch the next plane leaving for Ecuador!

Propylene gylcol is in the stuff you drink when preparing for a colonoscopy.

do not drink propylene glycol, it is NOT the chemical you are thinking of.

i was gonna be a chemical engineer before i switched to electrical engineering, keeping all these chemicals straight can get difficult, probably why i switched to EE,
only one of theses related glycols can be "drank" the other three will put you in the hospital with varying prognosis depending on how much you have and how quickly you absorbed it.

Why? You'd only have two models to work on, and those haven't changed in thousands of years- - - -you get paid whether you succeed or not- - - - -and you can bury your mistakes. Mechanics should charge more than doctors for their services!

Well, my handwriting is legible so that rules me out.

As for coolant, just use Prestone. They* say you can in use it in any vehicle and you can mix it with any existing coolant (any color) without harm.
