Hiya fellow bolters',

I am trying to figure out what year this radiator is from, that is in my 1965 Chevrolet C10 pickup.

I have some photos and measurements posted here:

01/28/2019 — radiator - 9 pictures

I think it is from the next body style chevy trucks(67-72), but I'd appreciate it if any of you can help me find out the year or parts numbers, etc..

It started leaking again, I took it out and it was a little wonky trying to find a good active radiator repair shop in my area. I finally found one and it is back in the truck now, but I'd really like to know what it is, as this is the 2nd or third time I've had it repaired, so I guess eventually I will have to get a new one!

Thanks a bunch for any information you can provide.

Woog,
The pictures show a radiator with a fill cap at the top driver side.
The top hose connects on the PS.
The bottom hose connects on the DS.
I had a FORD radiator like that.

My Chevy Harrison radiator for a the L6 is tall and narrow and the top hose is on the DS.
The bottom hose is on the PS.
The fill cap is off center to the PS.

The 1960-66 C10 trucks with a V8 had a short wide radiator that rested in saddles mounted on the upper rail of the frame crossmember. The L6 engines had the tall narrow radiators.

The fill cap on this radiator is on the passenger side, next to the battery.

That side of the radiator faces the engine.

Thanks for the reply.

I think what Lugnutz is saying is the fill cap is in the top tank. That would put it on the drivers side. The bottom tank is on the left in picture.
Your picture shows the radiator on its side.

So, it would seem that it may be a 1973 and up Chevy Radiator.

Maybe a 1973-1977 based on the tanks, maybe with a different core... I updated the latest info. on the link above.

Hmmmn.

I see now. It’s a cross flow radiator. So the fill cap is on the PS. All of my 60-66 radiators have been vertical flow, so I assumed . . . . .
I have no clue. I suppose you could start comparing Google images, but even then . . .

Lugnutz,
yeah I've seen the original ones in 60-66 engine bays at car shows. Which is why I was pretty sure mine was not original. The top mounts/brackets that hold it in place for the one in my truck are the next body style tho', as I bought some rubber pieces for them one time.

a photo of the radiator installed...

The 60-66's I've seen have that center mount/bracket that goes up and over the radiator.

Lakeroadster found a image of a '73-'77, the tanks look the same, but the width seems wider, hence maybe it was custom. I dunno.

details in the link here:

I don't know about the cross flow radiators but all the GM vertical flow Harrison radiators I've seen had the year of manufacture embossed into the top tank.

My Chevy car radiator is as ‘coilover’ stated. The month in letters plus the build year are on the top tank facing forward. Important in keeping a vehicle original. Costing me over $800 to do just that on the radiator.

There is very little original about my engine bay, hence my issues trying to identify things when they break.

hi Woogeroo,
did you have any luck with your radiator quest?
i did some google image searching, and this is what i found...

it looks to be some generic GM / chevy radiator, not an OEM for any vehicle in that time frame,
(but i gave up on OEM radiators pretty quick as cross flow seems rare for those years outside of British designs)
there are many options in this style online to choose from between $150-500 range still made new to this day, however they are mostly all aluminum now.
based on the dimensions and make/model you found it in, i would believe it to be an early version of one of either common sizes made today
26 x 19 or 26 x 16
available with
top passenger fill cap
cross flow design
upper left (driver) inlet 1-1/2 inch
lower right (passenger) outlet 1-3/4 inch

it is unfortunate that all will mount slightly differently from each other
i suggest finding a radiator shop and they would perhaps be able to suggest a solution, or go back to an OEM radiator

2ManyTrucks,

thanks a bunch for the information.

I did have my old one repaired, but I was trying to find out for the time when it can not be repaired anymore.

I think that was the 3rd time I have had it out to fix it, so I suppose eventually I will have to get a new one, hence my trying to determine what I have, while I had it out of the truck to take photos and measurements.

Thanks,

-Woog
