I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1958 235 engine. I'm trying to remove the camshaft. I already removed the two screws that hold on the thrust plate and the camshaft slides out about 1/2 inch, then stops. It's hitting something, but I don't know what. What should I be looking for, or what did I forget to remove?

Thanks for your help
Mario

Did you remove the lifters? This is what it sounds like to me. You may have to remove the distributor also. If it were me I would do this anyway because you will have to time it after the new cam is put in.

Hmmmmm,,,,, I seem to remember something about crankshaft position as well as what is listed in the above posts!

After the lifters are pulled out from the cam, the distributor and fuel pump are out, line up the timing marks on the crank & cam gears. One of the crank counterbalances won't clear the cam journal unless everything is just right.
