Can I bolt a 2007 Chevy Colorado 5 speed to a 1956 283 v8?

Chevy didn't offer a 283 v8 until 1957. They used a 1956 265 block bored out to 283 in 1957. Hopefully some one has an answer for the trans question.

Bart, you know with this bunch you've got to post all the information or someone's going to call you on it. Obviously someone in this trucks sorted past has transplanted a 283 where a I-6 or 265 used to live. Tell us what your working on then send Lugnutz a Private Message. He knows the answer to your question.

The bell housing is part of the transmission & the bolt pattern is not the same as Chev V8.

All that matters is mounting bolt pattern, easily changed, retainer diameter, again easily changed, and stickout length.
