What wheel bolt pattern do you have? Look for something modern with the same bolt pattern, modern brakes.

Some tidbits about replacement rear axles in this tech tip.

Better idea (than in above tech tip) for disc brakes on the front in this thread.

is there a way to update brakes without changing everything else? I've read about updating the rearend in a 1 ton, was hoping I could do the same for the
rearend in my 2 ton

Swapping the rear complete for one from a 1.5 ton might get you better axle gears, but check ratios first, some are same.
Swapping brakes around for a few years newer drums might work, but also not likely worth the effort, minimal improvement.

What are you trying to do, or why?

O.K. I have a 48 gmc 1 ton . I read about how hard it is to find parts 4 huck brake parts and that it was worth the effort to update brakes to bendix. I assumed my 2 ton would be the same way. My 2 ton that I just bought
has no brakes and i thought it mite be easier to just put a newer rear end under it. just looking 4 ideas on what to do. thanks Grigg for your help!
